The project brings together photography and narrative through the symbolism of the volcano as both a creative and destructive force. Inspired by travels to Mount Etna and by a residency in the Azores, the book weaves together mountains, minerals and the layers of human and cosmic time.
I wrote the text that accompanies the series of images, integrating the chapter “Eruption” into the artist’s broader research on affects and their cycles.
The publication was printed and handmade at Oficina do Cego in Lisbon, using screen printing and letterpress.

O projeto articula fotografia e narrativa a partir da simbologia do vulcão como potência criadora e destrutiva. Inspirado por viagens ao Monte Etna e por uma residência nos Açores, o livro entrelaça montanhas, minerais e as camadas do tempo humano e cósmico.
Escrevi o texto que acompanha a série de imagens, integrando o capítulo "Erupção" à pesquisa maior da artista sobre os afetos e seus ciclos.
A publicação foi impressa e confeccionada artesanalmente na Oficina do Cego, em Lisboa, em serigrafia e tipografia.
Nós-Outros
English - Directed by Lucía Alonso, with text by Guilherme Vernize, *Nós-Outros* explores the Minho River on its journey towards the sea as a territory of borders and encounters. Through a fragmented representation of the landscape, the piece creates a sensory experience in which boundaries dissolve and elements recognise themselves as part of a shared continuity, suggesting that identity and difference are constructions that constantly cross into one another.
The editing and visual rhythm shape an open narrative, closer to a mosaic of affections and encounters than to a conventional dramatic structure.

A partir da representação fragmentada da paisagem, a peça propõe uma experiência sensorial onde limites se dissolvem e elementos se reconhecem em continuidade, sugerindo que identidade e diferença são construções que se atravessam. A montagem e o ritmo visual criam uma narrativa aberta, mais próxima de um mosaico de afetos e encontros do que de uma estrutura dramática convencional.

English - A short documentary film directed by Daniela Schuarts, Guilherme Vernize, Leonardo Salomão and Lucía Alonso, born from an encounter with Tatunca Nara, a controversial figure associated with mythical narratives of the Amazon.
The film observes the character and the imaginary world that surrounds him in order to question the boundaries between truth and fabulation. Through accounts, silences and contradictions, the documentary follows the construction of a contemporary myth that transforms as it is told.
A cinematic investigation into memory, projection and the instability of what we take to be real.

O filme observa o personagem e o imaginário que o envolve para tensionar as fronteiras entre verdade e fabulação. Entre relatos, silêncios e contradições, o documentário acompanha a construção de um mito contemporâneo que se transforma à medida que é narrado.
Uma investigação cinematográfica sobre memória, projeção e a instabilidade daquilo que tomamos como real.
GIANTS

A short film by Guilherme Vernize, Lara Jacoski and Lucía Alonso, shot in the Peruvian Amazon, *Giants* follows young members of the Yine people and their relationship with the ancient trees of the forest. Through the gaze of a young man contemplating a Samaúma, one of the largest trees in the Amazon, the film reflects on the continuity between generations and what it means to become a guardian of these giants.
Moving between everyday gestures, encounters with the forest and moments of quiet observation, the film creates a sensitive experience around memory, care and permanence. Shot mainly on Super 8, it embraces the texture of film as part of its atmosphere, bringing image, time and territory closer together. The short will have its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

Curta-metragem realizado por Guilherme Vernize, Lara Jacoski e Lucía Alonso na Amazônia peruana, Gigantes acompanha jovens do povo Yine em sua relação com árvores centenárias da floresta. A partir do olhar de um jovem que contempla uma Samaúma, uma das maiores árvores da Amazônia, o filme propõe uma reflexão sobre a continuidade entre gerações e o papel de se tornar guardião dessas gigantes. Entre gestos cotidianos, encontros com a floresta e momentos de observação, a obra constrói uma experiência sensível sobre memória, cuidado e permanência. Filmado principalmente em Super 8, o curta incorpora a textura da película como parte de sua atmosfera, aproximando imagem, tempo e território, e terá sua estreia no Locarno Film Festival na Suiça.
